The Aston Lower Grounds, now known as Villa Park, wasn’t the first home of Aston Villa. Their previous grounds, Wellington Road, faced increasing problems including an uneven pitch, poor spectator facilities, a lack of access and exorbitant rents.
In 1897, Villa moved to Aston Lower Grounds. Over the years, the stadium has gone through a number of renovations and developments, resulting in the current stand configuration of the Holte End, Trinity Road Stand, North Stand and Doug Ellis Stand. The venue currently seats 42,095 and has hosted 55 FA Cup semi-finals – more than any other stadium.
